Last Ride Down

What am I going to do now? My downhill season is over with the closing of Mountain Creek Bike Park this past weekend. No DH for almost 6 months…ugh!

I had so much fun this weekend, hanging out with friends and the tribe of downhill riders that all love this sport. The annual Jump Jam, three times rescheduled due to weather, was a blast. It’s awesome watching all these people style the jumps with tricks and whips and the occasional back flip. There were some rad costumes as well, I liked the Evil Knievel one and the couple dressed as a cowboy and cowgirl, complete with horse heads on their bikes.

The best part of the day was the last ride down. I had watched videos of last runs in year’s past and I couldn’t wait to participate. Everyone gathered at the top of the hill, then all (maybe 75…?) of us rushed down the Greenhorn trail, weaving in an out of the trees and around everyone. It was chaos with so many riders crushed into the narrow trails, but so much fun. Everyone was whooping and hollering. It was getting dark too, so that added to the scene. And, when we all finally made it back down to the lodge it was dark, the season extinguished.

While I am bummed the downhill season is over, I will continue to ride as long as the local trails are clear of snow. I have a video project planned for the off season that I’m excited to start shooting. And, who knows, maybe I’ll end going on a bike trip somewhere…
