New Video: Flying Flannel III - Higher
Flying Flannel has been my annual end-of-season edit where I show my progression for the year. The cooler temperatures have set in and the leaves are changing, it’s time to put away the jersey and break out the flannel. I have shot two Flying Flannel videos so far and this is the third. The trick with this year’s video was how to make it different enough from the Mountain Creek Trail Sampler video we had shot just a few weeks ago. I didn’t see an issue, I knew I was going to hit the Covenant Drop and the Red Bull Cabin (both features were not in the Trail Sampler), then shoot some whips and be good. My dad wasn’t so convinced, he didn’t think there would be enough footage or it would look different enough. So he watched some YouTube videos and decided he was going to try and make in “cinematic”, whatever that meant. We put together a small shot list and headed to Mountain Creek.
The first scene we shot was the opening scene in the video, where I race down Crap Shoot. We mounted the DJI Osmo Pocket gimbal to the side of my dad’s helmet, upped the frame rate to 60fps and went to it. We had no idea if I was going to be in the frame or not. When we looked at the footage, we were blown away. Slowed down to half speed it looked amazing in 4K, it looked…cinematic!
With our stoked filled, we set about shooting. We decided on no POV and plenty of slo-mo. We had a lot of fun shooting. I hit the Covenant Drop four times in a row for different angles. I think my dad wanted one more, but my ankles were starting to hurt from taking the huge drop so many times. We did most of the shooting over 2 days and then a couple of re-shoots on a third day. I hope you enjoy. Just send it!
